Care Starts Right Away
Instead of waiting for the VA to approve their application, VetAssist clients receive an interest-free loan to pay for in-home care or adult day care starting when their application is submitted.
No Immediate Payments
Although you receive a monthly bill for your contracted home care, you do not need to make a payment until you begin receiving your VA Pension.
VA Approval
When the VA approves the claim, you receive VA funds retroactively from the date your application was filed.
Repay with VA Funds
When the VA sends the lump-sum retroactive payment, those funds are used to repay the loan. This allows us to deliver care with no out-of-pocket costs while waiting for application approval.

More About This Veterans Benefit
In 1952 Congress passed Title 38 of the United States Code authorizing certain benefits for veterans. One of these benefits is the Non-Service Connected Pension, with “Aid and Attendance.” It is also known as simply “Aid and Attendance”.
In March 1989, during President George H. W. Bush’s presidency, the Veterans Administration (VA) was elevated to a cabinet-level executive department. The Veterans Administration was then renamed the Department of Veterans Affairs, and continued to be known as VA. Today the VA is comprised of three basic branches: the Veterans Health Administration (VHA), the Veterans Benefits Administration and the National Cemetery Administration (NCA).
